Bahwan Healthcare Centre's Blood Donation Drive Evokes Good Response

Muscat, Sultanate of Oman - May 26, 2014.

More than hundred people from all walks of life, including working professionals, housewives, youngsters and employees of Suhail Bahwan Group companies, donated blood during the Blood Donation Camp held at the Bahwan Medical Centre in Al Khuwair on 24 May 2014. Held in association with the Central Blood Bank, Department of Blood Services, Ministry of Health, the camp was a resounding success with over 135 units of blood being collected in a span of five hours.

Ms. Amal Suhail Bahwan, Managing Director and Board Member of the Suhail Bahwan Group, inaugurated the camp in the presence of Dr. Sabria Al Hashami, Director, Department of Blood Services, and other officials from the Ministry of Health.

Ms. Amal Bahwan said, "By donating a small quantity of blood, we are not only doing a noble service, but also saving precious lives. It is wonderful to see people taking time off during their weekend and volunteering to donate blood."

"As a responsible corporate entity, we, at Bahwan Healthcare Centre, are committed to conduct more such camps in association with the Central Blood Bank and also various other corporate social responsibility programmes along with the Ministry of Health," added Ms. Amal Bahwan.

Ms Amal Bahwan also honoured Mr. Ahmed Al Kharousi, who has donated blood more than 100 times, with a memento in appreciation of his selfless act.

Dr. Sabria Al Hashami said, "The more we encourage people to donate, the more we get. Thanks to the proactive efforts of companies like the Suhail Bahwan Group, each year, we are seeing more and more people volunteering to donate blood." Mr. Ahmed Al Kharousi, who has donated blood more than 100 times, said, "Blood donation is a selfless act, and once you realize that you are saving lives of others, the whole experience is so humbling that I have made it a habit to donate blood regularly and I will continue to do so."

Mr. Bala Nagarjuna Podetti from Bahwan IT said, "Though I have donated blood earlier, I am doing it for the first time in Oman, and was amazed to see how people braved the summer heat and eagerly queued up to donate blood. I am proud to be part of such a noble cause that will help saving someone's life."

Doctors and members of the staff of Bahwan Healthcare Centre ensured that donors were taken through the process of basic medical check-up and blood collection in a seamless manner. BHC had also made arrangements to serve light snacks to the donors after blood collection.
