Senior officials of Qalhat LNG awarded ‘Certificate of Recognition’

in appreciation of the contribution of Bahwan Engineering Company LLC (BEC) in the construction of the prestigious US$. 700 million QLNG Project at Qalhat Facilities near Sur.

Mr. Harib Bin Abdullah Al Kitani, General Manager & CEO of Qalhat LNG presented to Mr. S.K. Virmani, Managing Director of BEC the certificate with citation “in recognition of their safe, efficient and timely completion of Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation construction works for Qalhat LNG Project, 2006”. He lauded BEC’s efforts in completing the project on time and exceeding the targeted high level of Omanisation. He also praised BEC’s achievement of 8.4 million man-hours without Lost Time Injuries, which helped the project to reach one of the best safety records in construction of similar plants globally.

Mr. Maurice Merzian, Executive Project Manager of Qalhat LNG presented the certificate for excellent safety performance.

Qalhat LNG started production in December 2005 - ahead of schedule and after agreement with the EPC contractor - at the end of a record-setting construction schedule that earned Qalhat LNG a flurry of awards for quality control, worker safety, HSE and Omanisation.

BEC, as a major subcontractor for the EPC contractor, Chiyoda-Foster Wheeler, undertook the complete Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation works of the Qalhat LNG plant. The contract covered all structural steel erection equipment hook-ups, entire piping works, electrical and instrumentation for the plant, and the complete integration of the new train with the existing two-train facility of Oman LNG.

In implementing this contract, BEC earned the distinction of being the only Omani company in the GCC with the expertise to build an LNG plant - a distinction hitherto held only by a select group of international engineering contractors.
