Bahwan Healthcare Centre lends support to AO Trauma's Advanced Course on Fracture Management

Muscat, Sultanate of Oman - 21 April, 2014.

The Oman chapter of AO Trauma Middle East, with the support of Bahwan Healthcare Centre [BHC], recently conducted a course on Advanced Principles of Fracture Management for orthopedic trauma surgeons in Oman. AO Trauma courses in Fracture Management have been held worldwide for over fifty years and are considered by orthopedic trauma surgeons as a very important continuous training.

Jointly chaired by Dr. Tariq Amin Sheikh, Senior Consultant at Khoula Hospital and Dr. Narayan Ramachandran, Senior Consultant at the Armed Forces Hospital, the course was attended by more than fifty surgeons from all over Oman, including Muscat, Salalah, Sur, Ibri, Nizwa, Rustaq and Sohar.

BHC, in collaboration with their partner DePuy Synthes that provide instruments, implants and technical support for practical workshops, extended turnkey logistics support for the 3-day event held at the Haffa House Hotel, Muscat.

Taught by faculty members from Khoula Hospital, Armed Forces Hospital as well as Ibri and Sohar regional hospitals, surgeons attending the course had the basic AO Principles of operative fracture management reemphasized, and concentrated on their application in the management of complex fractures using advanced techniques.

Participating surgeons benefitted from the modular format of the course with each module consisting of several short evidence- and case-based lectures. In practical exercises, surgeons were trained in the application of different techniques on plastic sawbones, using actual fracture fixation tools and implants. Additionally, interactive case discussions in small groups helped the participants to evaluate their decision making and management skills.
